The Correct Order Of Makeup Application: A Step-By-Step Infallible Guide

Here’s the correct order of makeup application according to experts

It’s normal not to know the correct order to apply makeup. If you’ve been looking at how to do it, you’ve likely discovered many different application steps. The truth is that it’s alright to be flexible.

Since there is more than one proper way to apply makeup, choosing the one that best suits your needs is vital. For instance, many makeup artists prefer to start with their eye makeup instead of the face and vice versa.

However, it’s an excellent idea to follow some steps and a particular order to achieve better results. Let’s look at this infallible makeup application guide so you can always look amazing.

Step 1 Prepare the Skin

It’s an understanding that before applying makeup, you must take good care of your skin and apply top-quality sunscreen. A standard beauty routine includes:

  • Cleanser
  • Toner
  • Moisturiser
  • Sunscreen

If you’re short on time, consider using a moisturiser with SPF like A’PIEU Pure Block Natural Daily Sun Cream to protect the skin from harmful UV rays.

A’PIEU Pure Block Natural Daily Sun Cream contains SPF 45, PA+++. It leaves no stickiness or shine, so it’s perfect for applying under makeup.

Please note that even though some makeup foundations offer sun protection, it’s best to always apply sunscreen (especially during summer) as they provide broader protection from UVA and UVB rays.

Step 2 Primer

You need to apply primer if you want your makeup to be more permanent and look flawless. You can use moisturiser, but avoid using both simultaneously. Moisturisers can make primers less effective.

People with oily or acne-prone skin should prefer primer as it keeps the face from looking shiny. An excellent option is INNISFREE No Sebum Blur Primer. This primer promotes pore cover and sebum control.

Step 3 Apply Concealer

Apply an eye cream like HEIMISH Marine Care Eye Cream before putting on your under-eye concealer. Makeup artists recommend using a concealer lighter than your foundation to effectively cover eye bags and dark eye circles.

We like to use THE SAEM Cover Perfection Tip Concealer SPF28 PA++ to conceal skin imperfections such as blemishes, freckles, under-eye dark circles, hyperpigmentation, etc.

This concealer is the perfect cosmetic if you want flawless coverage. It’s available in different shades, so it’s easy to find the one that best matches your skin tone.

THE SAEM Cover Perfection Tip Concealer SPF28 PA++ provides excellent coverage that you can use as a foundation.

Please note that it’s possible to apply concealer without foundation. This makeup method is appropriate for an everyday natural look. Use a tiny amount of concealer to cover skin imperfections. Then use a powder foundation like MISSHA Magic Cushion Moist Up to even out your complexion.

Keep in mind that some makeup professionals prefer to apply concealer after foundation as this can prevent using more product than required and prevent your skin from looking cakey. Try either way and decide which makeup technique is best for you.

Step 4 Foundation

Foundation is the best cosmetic for creating a flawless canvas on which to build your makeup. It would be best if you chose a formula that improves and enhances your skin type and tone. Finding a shade similar to your skin tone and undertone is essential.

ETUDE HOUSE Double Lasting Foundation contains SPF34 PA++ for protecting the skin from UV rays. It provides a soft but matte finish and powder adherence to give you perfect coverage.

You can also use a tint BB cream like MISSHA M Perfect Cover BB Cream SPF 42 PA+++. This BB cream is formulated with ingredients certified by the Korea Food and Drug Administration to ensure optimal results.

MISSHA M Perfect Cover BB Cream SPF 42 PA+++ is a 3-in-1 formula: wrinkle repairing, whitening, and sun protection. It’s available in 5 different shades that work with a wide range of skin colours.

Step 5 Blush

Next comes the exciting part of applying blush, bronzer, and highlighter to take your look to a higher level. Using all three is unnecessary, but if you do, start with bronzer, then highlight and apply blush.

Bronzers are terrific for adding depth to your face, while highlighters emphasise points of your face like your cheekbones. Then blend everything with blush.

TOO COOL FOR SCHOOL Art Class by Rodin Shading is the perfect contour kit to sculpt your face flawlessly. This contour kit is beginner friendly, buildable, and blendable. It contains three different shades, and you can use it to highlight your collarbone, cheekbones, V line, eyes, and high nose bridge.

Since you need to apply liquid cosmetics before powder, if you’re using a watery blush like A’PIEU Juicy-Pang Water Blusher, apply it before contour, highlighter, or bronzer.
